The Nightingales Trust - Tanya Mathias Elder Care Centre, a residential care centre for elders with dementia and special needs, was inaugurated in June 2018, at Kothanur in Bangalore. Set in idyllic surroundings amidst coconut groves and eucalyptus trees, this milestone initiative is NMT’s third residential Dementia Care Centre. The attractive new care centre is a spacious 25-bed facility based on the hub-and spokes model. Activities are aimed to help stimulate people with dementia in a well-designed environment. The Centre provides an enabling and supporting environment for 25 women affected by dementia; assessing needs and implementing healthcare plans delivered by a multidisciplinary team including a psychologist, nurses, caregivers and driving forward improvements in healthcare and social care.
The salient features of the Nightingales Trust-Tanya Mathias Elder Care Centre are:
Assessment of cognition and memory by experts followed by personalized care plan.
Short-term and long-term care monitored by experts in telemedicine technology and special software.
Dementia-friendly environment: Well-planned garden for relaxed walks
Regular exercise, rehabilitation sessions
Recreation: Music, singing and games. Carers and volunteers assist patients
In a burgeoning city like Bangalore where very few facilities exist for people with dementia, there is a great need for more care centres.
